When i was compiling the Amrut releases list for this blog i came across a release for a Wine Merchants in Canada that nobody seemed to know anything about , eventually i managed to track down a bottle…..
From an American Oak cask , #2272 , Filled on July 25th 2002 and bottled in July 2009 , this is the second oldest Amrut released (after the Double cask ) , The ABV 61.8% and it is one of 210 bottles .
It’s a lovely Golden Syrup colour in the glass and as soon as you nose it you know it’s an Amrut , first up is the Amrut Liquorice then the Millionaires Shortbread ( Shortbread Biscuit , Caramel toffee and chocolate ) , there is also a background note of cloves and spices . The palate is superb , the Full Amrut , very intense , the liquorice and something i’ve never noticed before a mossy-ness , again cloves and spices and a touch of Chocolate . The finish is very chewy , very long with spices and the liquorice . There is also a late hint of Oak , not woody , just the wood spices i take it .
An absolutely stunning Amrut , the lucky people of Alberta certainly got an excellent example in this bottling , A Beaut !
